Working with adults
This part of the website applies to you if you are a professional, working with or caring for adults who have needs for care and support, whether paid or unpaid in a Statutory Organisation or in a private or voluntary sector organisation in the Darlington locality. This also includes those who commission services to adults with care and support needs.
Safeguarding is the process of protecting an adult with care and support needs from abuse or neglect and promoting their wellbeing whilst at the same time placing the adult at risk at the centre of the process and through consultation, taking into account their views and wishes and their desired outcomes.
If you work with adults with needs for care and support, you can find important information on these pages which includes a wide range of policies, procedures, guidance, templates and briefing notes to support effective multi-agency working.
Care Act 2014
The Care Act 2014 established a legislative framework for Adult Safeguarding. Safeguarding means protecting an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. It is about people and organisations working together to prevent and stop both the risks and experience of abuse or neglect, while at the same time making sure that the adult’s wellbeing is promoted and includes where appropriate having regard to their views, wishes, feelings and beliefs in deciding on the best course of action.
