Independent Scrutineer role
Darlington Safeguarding Partnership is an integrated multi-agency partnership providing strategic leadership, direction, and governance for the delivery of statutory and local requirements for safeguarding children and adults in Darlington.

Darlington Safeguarding Partnership (DSP) is seeking an Independent Scrutineer to provide objective oversight, constructive challenge, and supportive guidance across multi-agency safeguarding arrangements. The successful candidate will ensure the Partnership fulfils its statutory responsibilities as set out in Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 Statutory Guidance and S43 requirements outlined in The Care Act 2014 and will be accountable to the Lead Safeguarding Partners.
To apply, you must be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and expertise in either a safeguarding children and/or adult context and be familiar with safeguarding practice and partnership working. You should have excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills and be able to demonstrate a record of strong independent leadership within a partnership setting.
This position is for a fixed term of three years:
- 30 days per year (any further days at the agreement of Lead Safeguarding Partners)
- Daily rate of £500 per day (inclusive of all expenses), within IR35 rules.
- Hybrid working options are available but the role will require some attendance at in person partnership meetings. An office base is available in Darlington (if required).
